Geochemistry of the Albian to Upper Maastrichtian formations of the K1 oil well (East of the Côte d’Ivoire offshore basin): Depositional environment and implication of provenance

The studies were carried out on 93 samples of cuttings from the K1 oil well. These processed using Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF) method. Chemical analyses contributed to determination depositional environments and origin sediments. Albian sediments deposited in an environment proximal continental characterize MS1 mega-sequence. In contrast, MS2 mega-sequence (Cenomanian Maastrichtian) was a shallow deep marine marked by decrease detrital flow. ratio Ti/Y, with values below 0.017 MS1, means that sediment source MS1would therefore be richer phosphates, contribution mafic volcanic rocks (rich illite, iron magnesium). contrast is characterized Ti/Y above 0.017. This Yttrium content this consistent Th/Al 1.588. would suggest titanium oxides, which could rutile, sphene or anatase.
